If you’ve never eaten or cooked flautas before and are wondering what they are or how to make them, here’s everything you need to know about this dish.

What is Flautus?

Flautus are crispy tacos made with a deep-fried corn tortilla. It is rolled, filled with meat, cheese, beans or vegetables, then deep fried until crispy. Flautus can be eaten as an appetizer or as a filling for a larger meal. You can also serve them with your favorite salsa or guacamole for dipping on the side.

The inside of the tortilla is usually dampened before it is fried in order to prevent it from breaking when rolling the dish up. Flautus are then served with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes and onion.

Typically, they’re fried or baked until crispy and then topped with guacamole or sour cream and salsa. Even though flautas are an easy finger food to make, they can also be served as an entrée if wrapped tightly in aluminum foil and then microwaved until the filling is heated through. It’s important to serve flautas right after making them so that the tortillas don’t get soggy from the filling.

Flautus are typically eaten for breakfast or lunch but can also be served as an appetizer or a late-night snack.
