  • Salsa, for serving
  • Morita peppers
  • Cheese, to garnish the picaditas
  • Onions
  • Salt
  • Lard
  • Garlic cloves
  • Sliced avocado
  • Water

How to make Picaditas step by step

  1. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit (230 degrees Celsius).
  2. In a pan over medium heat, toast the chilies on all sides. This will take about two minutes to complete. Put them in the blender after that.
  3. Combine the tomatoes, 1/4 onion, and garlic in a baking dish.
  4. After 10 minutes, remove the onion and garlic. Garlic cloves should be peeled. Combine the onion and garlic in a blender.
  5. Cook for an additional 8 minutes with the tomatoes.
  6. Toss the tomatoes into the blender with the salt.

  14. In around 80-90 seconds, flip the tortilla and lightly press down on it until it puffs up. Remove the tortillas from the stove and set them aside to keep warm while you cook the rest.
  15. After about 30 seconds, pull a small quantity of dough from the inside portion of the cooked tortilla to make a small ridge around the exterior. To make little holes, pinch the middle portion as well.
  16. After coating the bottom of the skillet with oil, return the tortillas to it. Cook for a few more minutes, until crispy, with a little refined coconut oil or other vegetable oil drizzled over each one.
