What is Pata de Mula?

Pata de mula is a pressure-cooked hog leg that has been marinated and cooked until it is fall-apart tender. As a result, you’ll find yourself yearning for more of this flavorful, thick dish. The name of the dish translates directly to “horseshoe leg” in English, referring to the shape of the pig hock. “Pata de mula” is a tasty dish that is often served with steamed rice and vegetables on the side.

Pata de Mula is a Mexican ingredient that is not derived from a bull’s foot. Pata de Mula, on the other hand, is an acorn from a large, spreading tree that can grow to be 60 feet tall. This tree is native to Mexico and Central America, as well as the southern United States. Pata de mula has a long history in Mexican cuisine.

Pata de mula clams are also known as blood clams in English because the shell contains hemoglobin. They are gathered in the wild along much of Mexico’s Pacific coast. It’s a tasty stew made with beef and a variety of vegetables.
