Commonwealth UK Scholarship for Masters and PhD Studies 2024. Zambians who meet the required qualifications are invited to apply for 35 Commonwealth Scholarships—18 for master’s degrees and 17 for doctorates—available for the academic year 2024–2025 in the UK. Only those who meet the minimal requirements listed below are required to apply.
FIELDS OF STUDY
The scholarships are offered under six development themes and all candidates must apply under one of these themes:
(a) Science and technology for development;
(b) Strengthening health systems and capacity;
(c) Promoting global prosperity;
(d) Strengthening global peace, security and governance;
(e) Strengthening resilience and response to crises;
(f) Access, inclusion and opportunity.
CONDITIONS
(a) Candidates should be able to meet own costs towards:
Expenses to and from the Airport;
Any costs not covered by the award.
(b) The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) will meet costs towards: Approved airfare from Zambia to the United Kingdom and return at the end of the award; Approved tuition fees;
A stipend (living allowance) at the approved rate;
• Warm clothing allowance, where applicable;
• Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable;
Study travel grant towards the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas.
ELIGIBILITY
To apply for these scholarships, you must:
(a) Be a Zambian with a Green National Registration Card (NRC);
(b) Be permanent resident in Zambia;
(c) Be available to start your studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2024;
(d) Not have commenced and be currently registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, in Zambia or elsewhere;
(e) Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship;
(f) Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard or a second class degree (minimum Merit) for both Masters and PhD candidates.
• Candidates who have taken any of their university education outside Zambia will be required to state how it was funded and how the education differed from the one in Zambia.
• Candidates will be required to submit two references (at least 1 from a supervisor from a UK University to which they are applying).
Candidates will be required to provide a personal statement (about their background) when submitting the online application.

• All candidates must demonstrate in their application the direct and applied relevance of their study to development in their home country. Candidates should make any such links explicit in their applications.
All Applicants must attach all supporting documentation to their application at time of submission. The CSC does not accept documents submitted at a later date. Applications with the following documents missing are considered incomplete and therefore ineligible: proof of citizenship or refugee status in an eligible
Commonwealth country all university academic transcripts at least two references and one supporting statement from supervisor at a UK Institution for PhD candidates only.
Applications open on Tuesday, 5 September 2023. All nominated candidates must apply to the CSC’s online application system by Tuesday, 17 October 2023 at 16:00 (GMT). Any nominated candidate who would not have submitted an application by this date and time will not be considered for a scholarship.

METHOD OF APPLICATION
Applicants should submit:Â Undergraduate GRZ Student Loans at Copperbelt University ( Zambians )
A typed application letter responding to the advertisement, clearly stating the field of study desired and phone number for easy communication;
• Curriculum Vitae, photocopies of Education certificates, transcripts and National Registration Card (NRC);
•A typed study plan/synopsis of the preferred course demonstrating the direct and applied relevance of the intended course of study to one’s contribution to Zambia’s development (400 words). Applicants are required to state which of the CSC’s six development themes their preferred course falls under.
. Recommendation letters from their respective employers indicating that they would be granted leave to take up offers if selected.
• Application fee of K100 should be deposited at any NATSAVE Branch. Applicants should submit a clear copy of the deposit slip for application fee from NATSAVE.
Please note that the CSC’S selection committee will grade applications based on the following criteria:
- Academic merit of the applicant;
- Quality of the study plan;
- Potential impact of the work on the development of Zambia.
